National Police have arrested a man in Burgos with numerous previous convictions as the alleged perpetrator of two deliberate fires that destroyed four motor vehicles and damaged a residential facade.

A man aged between 35 and 40 years has been taken into custody in Burgos on suspicion of causing two intentional fires. The arrestee has an extensive criminal history, with more than ten previous records in police files.
The first incident occurred on 18 May. The flames consumed a private car parked inside a property in the western sector of the town, at which time the owner was inside the house. The second fire took place in the early hours of 20 May, when three motor vehicles lined up on a road in the Los Parralillos residential estate fell victim to the flames.
Municipal firefighters quickly extinguished the fire, preventing it from reaching nearby buildings. Even so, the uniformed officers preventively evacuated nearby homes and asked residents to remove their own vehicles.
The investigation included statements from the victims and objective evidence that placed the arrestee at both locations at the exact moment of the incidents. At the scenes, traces of a petrol canister and remains of flammable liquid were recovered, scattered over both the vehicles and sections of the facades. This evidence confirms the premeditated nature of the acts.
According to the police report, which ABC has accessed, the main reason would be a desire for revenge. The arrestee had previous relationships with several of the victims and would have acted with the purpose of harming them. He was subsequently brought before the competent jurisdiction.
