Major anti-drugs operation between Morocco and Spain: 57 arrests and nearly ten tonnes of narcotics seized
The Spanish national police have dismantled an international criminal network specialising in the trafficking of hashish and marijuana from Morocco, reports fr.hespress.com. The operation, conducted in six Spanish provinces, resulted in the arrest of 57 people, 18 of whom were held in provisional detention.
According to Spanish authorities, the network was transporting significant quantities of narcotics from Morocco to Spain, before moving them by land to Madrid. In the capital, several flats served as drug storage points.
Investigations began in August 2025, after investigators detected drug trafficking activities coordinated via an encrypted messaging platform. Gradually, the investigations made it possible to trace back to an organisation which Spanish police describe as "particularly professional".
The investigation also revealed a money laundering scheme. The suspected network members are believed to have resorted to fraudulent loans and reinvested profits in real estate as well as in the purchase of high-end vehicles. Shell companies, forged documents, payslips and invoices are said to have been used to give a legal appearance to certain fund transfers.
Between August 2025 and July 2026, investigators conducted twenty raids: fifteen in Madrid, two in Guadalajara, two in Malaga and one in Valencia. These operations resulted in the seizure of 8.5 tonnes of hashish and more than 1.1 tonnes of marijuana, as well as 47 bottles of petrol.
The authorities also seized 19 vehicles, twelve luxury watches, 50,800 euros in cash and a firearm.
The geographical distribution of arrests reflects the concentration of the operation in Madrid, where 45 arrests took place. Valencia accounts for five, Malaga three, Guadalajara two, and one each in the provinces of Burgos and Almeria.
Spanish national police note that the investigation remains open and that further arrests or seizures could take place in the coming weeks.
