Suspected author of armed robbery at petrol station arrested
According to El Confidencial, the Guardia Civil has arrested a 48-year-old resident of Santoña as the suspected perpetrator of an armed robbery with intimidation at a local petrol station. He was arrested on 22 October following an operation at his workplace, following the investigation of events that occurred weeks earlier.
In the early hours of 4 October, a hooded individual carrying a large tool, possibly a wrench, repeatedly struck one of the glass doors of the service station to gain entry. Once inside, he demanded that the employee hand over the takings. During the struggle that ensued, the worker was seriously assaulted.
The attacker fled with the cash register, though it was empty of takings. The employee had serious injuries and was transferred to Laredo Comarcal Hospital for treatment. The Guardia Civil attended the scene immediately and gathered initial information about what had occurred.
During the investigation carried out by the Judicial Police of the Guardia Civil of Santoña, officers recovered the cash register in an area of industrial warehouses in Cicero. The investigators also managed to identify the vehicle used in the getaway, a key piece of information that allowed them to determine the identity of the suspected perpetrator. The detainee is a resident of Santoña who had previously been arrested for another crime.
After being arrested on 22 October, he was transferred to the Guardia Civil premises in Santoña to continue with the instructional proceedings. The following day he was placed at the disposal of the courts.
