Google News FI — Crime (fi) reported that Ostrobothnia police suspect a 27-year-old man of two murders that occurred on Saturday in Laihia and Vaasa. According to the preliminary investigation, both incidents are connected.
On Saturday morning at around 4:30 a.m., police received information about a serious traffic accident in Laihia on Vaasantie. Police now suspect that the 27-year-old man deliberately steered his car into the path of an oncoming vehicle. The driver of the oncoming vehicle died in the collision, and both passengers were injured. A third vehicle was also damaged, and its driver was slightly injured.
After the collision, the suspect left the scene on foot. Police tracked him with a police dog for approximately three kilometres. The man was later found when he approached a residential area and asked for help. Police arrested him.
After the arrest, police began to piece together events in Vaasa that preceded the collision. A police patrol went to inspect a flat in a residential building located in Palosaar, whose door was extremely hot and the flat was filled with smoke. The fire service extinguished the fire, and a dead woman was found in the flat.
According to police information, the woman and the suspected man were in a relationship. Police currently have no record of previous domestic violence cases involving them. Police suspect the woman was the victim of a homicide and that the fire was deliberately set.
The suspect has been interrogated and has explained the course of events to police. Police suspect him of two murders, two attempted murders, aggravated destruction of property, and aggravated endangerment of traffic safety. Charges must be brought by 8 January.
