Helsinki District Court ordered the remand in custody on Thursday of a middle-aged man suspected of attempted murder. The victim was his son, who is under ten years old. The alleged offence occurred in Pyhtää in the night between Monday and Tuesday.

Kouvolan Sanomat reports that the father himself called the emergency services at around one o'clock in the morning. Rescue service units and police patrols arrived at the turning place of the museum bridge in Savukoski, where they found both the man and the child.

Detective Inspector Tuomas Lindholm of Helsinki Police states that the man was arrested immediately at the scene. The boy was taken urgently to hospital. According to Lindholm, the child's life is not in danger.

Both parties are from the metropolitan area and do not live in Pyhtää. For this reason, Helsinki Police are conducting the investigation. The boy was lawfully in his father's company.

Police consider the act to be premeditated, which is why the suspect is charged with attempted murder. More specific details about the method are not being released for the time being, in order not to jeopardise the preliminary investigation.

Interviews are ongoing, and the authorities are continuing to clarify the circumstances of events.
