Intentional fire in Kirkkonummi: five young men suspected of attempted murder
Police suspect five young men of setting an intentional fire in Kirkkonummi. A firework was pushed into an apartment through a ventilation window on Saturday early morning.

Yle Uutiset reported that a fire broke out in Kirkkonummi on Saturday, 23 August at approximately 3 a.m., which police are investigating as attempted murder and aggravated destruction.
According to police's preliminary assessment, a firework was pushed into the apartment's bedroom through a ventilation window. Remains of a firework were found in the burnt-out apartment.
Investigation leader, Detective Superintendent Jutta Saarinen states that there were people in the bedroom at the time of the incident. The apartment contained seven residents and three cats at the time of the fire in total. All managed to evacuate and no one was injured – the cats were also brought out.
– According to preliminary information, the apartment has smoke damage. In addition, the room where the fire started is completely burned on all of its surfaces, Saarinen says.
According to Saarinen, the fire remained confined to one room.
Police suspect five young men in connection with the crimes, who were born between 2004 and 2007. Three of them are currently detained, one is under arrest and one is in custody. The suspects were apprehended at somewhat different times following the incident.
– Some of the suspects were apprehended fairly shortly after the incident occurred, Saarinen says.
According to police's preliminary assessment, the suspects or some of them were previously acquainted with the person living in the apartment. Police cannot comment on the motives for the fire at this stage, as the preliminary investigation is ongoing.
