Man from Lappeenranta charged with 58 thefts – prosecutor seeks unconditional prison sentence
A man in his thirties repeatedly stole from shops in Lappeenranta over the course of a year. The prosecutor is seeking eight months' unconditional imprisonment and compensation.

South Karelia District Court heard a major theft case on Tuesday in which a man over thirty years old is accused of repeated shoplifting in Lappeenranta. Yle reported on the matter.
The man is suspected of stealing goods from multiple shops over the course of a year. There are a total of 58 charges.
The stolen goods were mainly alcohol, but also footwear, audio equipment, fragrances, headwear and meat. Most of the offences occurred in S-Group stores. Targets also included K-Group shops, Motonet, Lidl, Alko and Tokmanni.
Many of the thefts took place in Iso-Kristiina shopping centre. In the smallest instance, it involved sweets worth a few euros. The largest single theft occurred at Motonet, from which the man took goods worth approximately 470 euros.
The man confessed to several of the offences during the pre-trial investigation. He was arrested on 30 March from K-Citymarket, from which he had taken drinks and shoes.
The man remains in custody. The prosecutor is seeking eight months' unconditional imprisonment for him. Additionally, the prosecutor is seeking compensation for the companies for damages incurred, reimbursement of investigation costs to the state, and a criminal victim fee of 120 euros.
The district court will issue its decision within two weeks.
