According to Yle.fi, police suspect that operations at the private Helsinki Design School involve a crime. Criminal investigator Markku Nisula from the Helsinki police confirms the matter: "Police have reason to suspect debtor crime related to the company's operations."
Nisula does not elaborate on the scope of the crime, as the investigation is ongoing. Police initiated the preliminary investigation in November 2025, when both students and teachers had filed police reports about the school. According to Nisula, the most recent investigation request came from the school's bankruptcy estate.
In November 2025, it emerged that the company running the school had at least approximately 1.3 million euros in debt. The company's chief executive and owner Jani Aromäki filed for bankruptcy.
The school of creative industries, which operated in Helsinki's Hietalahti district, attracted students with notable lecturers. At the school, students could study, among other subjects, graphic design, fashion design and photography. The school was founded in 2012.
