Two suspected arson cases in Oulu within a short timeframe
Oulu police are investigating two separate fires as suspected cases of arson, according to kaleva.fi. The cases occurred in Oulunsalo and Hiironen, and police do not believe they are connected.
Two abandoned buildings caught fire in Myllymetsä, Oulunsalo, last Saturday. One of them burned completely to the ground, and additionally, the surrounding area was damaged over several hundred square metres. In Hiironen, meanwhile, a timber stack caught fire during the night between Thursday and Friday, spreading considerable smoke to the surrounding area.
Criminal reports have been filed for both cases under the heading of property damage. In the case of the Oulunsalo fire, reckless handling is also being investigated as a suspicion.
Tero Väyrynen, communications officer at Oulu police station, states that in Oulunsalo there have been sightings of children under 15 years old in the area. There have been no sightings reported from Hiironen so far.
