In Rovaniemi, a half-full energy drink can thrown from a bridge over the Ounasjoki River struck a church boat rower on the head on Sunday. The rower sustained a bleeding wound and was taken to hospital. Police have received a crime report.

On Sunday in Rovaniemi, a dangerous incident occurred when a half-full energy drink can flew off a bridge and struck a church boat rower on the head. The incident happened at approximately 19:00 when a group of Rovaniemi church boat rowers were training on the Ounasjoki River.
The drink container struck one of the rowers as the boat passed under the bridge. The impact to the head caused heavy bleeding. However, the victim remained conscious throughout the incident.
– I was sitting behind the victim and saw how the blow came. I didn't see what happened on the bridge, says Alisa Olkinuora, who was present, to Yle.
The boat crew called the emergency centre and steered the vessel quickly to the Arcticum shore. The victim was transported to Lapland Central Hospital for examination. According to Olkinuora, the victim has recovered well.
Olkinuora considers the incident life-threatening. She posted about it on Facebook and hopes for discussion about why objects are thrown from bridges.
Tiia Vierinen, crime commissioner at Lapland Police, confirms to Yle that police have been notified of the crime. No further information is provided at this stage.
Healthcare professionals and a medical student present at the scene provided first aid before the ambulance arrived.
