In Gers, all the judges of the Auch jurisdiction adopted a motion to denounce the degraded working conditions they have faced since the disappearance of schoolgirl Lyhanna. This text, voted on Monday 8 June and made public the following day, denounces a campaign of hostility against them, which they say has been encouraged by political statements from national leaders.
The signatories report having been targeted by insults and death threats, notably the public prosecutor. People passing in front of the courthouse are also said to make aggressive remarks during hearings. They attribute this situation to "uninhibited political discourse" from "political personalities placed at the highest level of responsibility".
These criticisms target in particular the Minister of Justice, Gérald Darmanin, who had denounced a week earlier "damning and unacceptable dysfunctions in State services". He had suggested that sanctions could be imposed on judges if failings were uncovered. For his part, Head of State Emmanuel Macron had declared from Montenegro that a "dysfunction" existed, describing it as unacceptable, whilst rejecting the idea that the judiciary lacks resources.
The officials of the jurisdiction also emphasise their excessive workload. They indicate that they recorded 10,000 complaints during the year 2025, with only "three prosecutors for a population of 192,000 inhabitants". In the introduction to their text, they expressed their solidarity with the family and relatives of Lyhanna.
The death of this teenager caused a shockwave in public opinion and numerous reactions from the political establishment. This tragedy highlighted the difficulties faced by judicial services in monitoring vulnerable minors.
