Following the death of young Lyhanna, senators have decided to open an investigation aimed at examining structural problems in French criminal policy.

Senators voted on Wednesday 10 June to establish an information mission dedicated to examining the failures in steering criminal policy and ways to prevent its derailment. This decision, formalised by the Legal Commission under the direction of Muriel Jourda, responds to the shock caused by Lyhanna's death.
The mission is expected to obtain expanded powers of hearing and investigation by being granted the status of commission of inquiry. Muriel Jourda will be its rapporteur, supported by representatives designated by each parliamentary group.
According to the Republicans, initiators of this initiative, the objective is to provide a comprehensive overview of the difficulties afflicting the justice system, not limiting itself to the sole matter of Lyhanna's disappearance. Gérard Larcher, at the head of the chamber, also highlighted the desire to identify systemic malfunctions.
