Family of Trappes victim: lawyer points to possible state failure

According to lefigaro.fr, the family of Pengo Bossio Wangi, the 26-year-old man killed on Friday during the terrorist attack in Trappes and La Verrière in the Yvelines, is raising questions about the absence of preventive warning concerning the alleged gunman.

The family's lawyer, Me Yassine Bouzrou, indicates that the suspect, identified as Kevin T., 39, was "apparently in possession of military weapons" and "already known to police and judicial authorities". On Saturday, he did not rule out "pursuing any administrative liability".

In a statement transmitted to AFP, Me Bouzrou specified: "The family requests that the conditions be determined with precision in which this individual was subject to no preventive warning." He added that the family "reserves the right to pursue any administrative liability that may be incurred due to an established failure".

The family is also demanding access to all elements relating to the monitoring, or absence of monitoring, of Kevin T. by the authorities prior to the act.

Me Bouzrou described the acts as a "racist attack committed by a far-right terrorist". The family of Pengo Bossio Wangi further requests that the investigation establish "in an exhaustive manner the radicalisation path" of the suspect, "as well as the ideological sources to which he was exposed".

In his statement, Me Bouzrou also noted that "the racist theses known as the 'great replacement' and statements stigmatising populations on the basis of their origin or religion have been subject, for several years, to dissemination in certain media and political spaces, including during the ongoing electoral campaign".

Pengo Bossio Wangi was described as a promising prospect for French MMA. He was among the victims of the shooting that occurred on Friday in the Yvelines. The alleged gunman, Kevin T., reportedly targeted individuals according to their skin colour, claiming he wanted to avenge shopkeepers who were looted on 17 October, according to Le Monde. At his home, investigators found a copy of Mein Kampf, a Bible and a Qur'an, according to BFM.
