Terrorist attack in Yvelines: child's critical condition persists

According to the National Counter-Terrorism Prosecutor's Office (Pnat), as reported by BFM TV, the 12-year-old child struck by eight bullets during the shooting on Friday 23 October in Trappes remains in critical condition on Saturday. The attack, carried out around 10:30 a.m. in the streets of Yvelines, killed one person and wounded five others.

The shooter, arrested in the car park of a Kiloutou store in Coignières on Friday, used an automatic weapon. The anti-crime brigade (Bac) apprehended him in a commercial area. Placed in police custody on Friday, his detention was extended on Saturday morning after questioning; his state of health was deemed compatible with continued custody.

The Pnat took charge of the case on Friday at midday, opening an investigation for "murder in connection with a terrorist enterprise, with the circumstance that the acts were committed on account of true or supposed membership of an alleged race, ethnicity, nation or determined religion". A search of the suspect's home revealed a booby-trap device consisting of three gas bottles and electrical wires connected to a timer. On Friday evening, the suspect's mother and two other people in his circle were also placed in police custody.
