Legal proceedings in the Marseille murder case

A police commander testified on Wednesday and Thursday before the Bouches-du-Rhône court of assizes to present the investigative elements from Marseille's criminal investigation unit. The investigation made it possible to identify the accused in the file concerning the murder of Brahim Chabane, committed in late 2020 near Marseille in a context of organised crime linked to drug trafficking.

According to Le Figaro, the two alleged killers — Réda Khaldi and Nassim Loubani — face life sentences. Karim Harrat, presented as the instigator, is also among the accused. The defence contested the case evidence, with his counsel arguing that the elements accumulated by the investigation do not constitute sufficient proof.

The atmosphere in the courtroom grew tense when one of the accused, referred to by his peers by the nicknames "Rantaplan" or "Le Rent", interrupted the proceedings to request cushions, claiming discomfort from the benches. His lawyers even offered to supply them to the roughly twenty members of the elite unit present.
