Toulouse: police watchdog seized after serious injury to protester

Hand injury during 24 October protest

According to ici.fr, a 20-year-old man named Teddy was seriously injured in the hand during the protest against the cost of living on 24 October 2026 in Toulouse. He filed a complaint the day after the event, during questioning at the university hospital carried out by the judicial police investigation service of Toulouse.

The Toulouse prosecutor's office confirmed that the case was opened following videos circulating on social networks. The precise circumstances of the injury remain to be determined at this stage of the inquiry.

IGPN seized for voluntary violence

The prosecutor seized the IGPN, the police watchdog, on Monday 27 October, on charges of voluntary violence committed by a person holding public authority, followed by mutilation or permanent disability, during a protest on public roads. The prosecutor specifies that this qualification gives no indication of the exact legal nature of the offence that the inquiry will determine.

According to a police source, the young protester lost one or more phalanges but "should have the hand saved". Another source close to the case confirmed this information.

Tensions during clashes

Following the Toulouse protest on 24 October against the cost of living, clashes broke out with law enforcement. The prosecutor confirms that a person required care for serious hand injury following these clashes.

In parallel, the CGT and FSU filed a request with the prefecture for authorisation of a protest for the following Saturday. A call for a "second act" of mobilisation against the cost of living has been circulating for more than 24 hours on social networks and on the "17octobregiletsjaunes" website.
