Basket Gate: Koromilá's counsel – the €100,000 from an account abroad
Lawyer G. Kriemadis argues that the money found in the referee's home stems from withdrawals during capital controls. He questions the credibility of the witness who has been granted immunity status.

Defence counsel for Koromilá: 'The money comes from a bank account abroad'
The approximately €100,000 which, according to the prosecution, was found in the home of referee Ilias Koromilá comes from withdrawals from a bank account abroad during the period of capital controls, declared his counsel, Giorgos Kriemadis, in an interview with ERT News, as reported by Dikastiko.gr.
According to Kriemadis, the account in question contained fees paid to his client by the EuroLeague, totalling less than €300,000. The lawyer stated that the necessary procedures have already been initiated to obtain the bank statements — a process that requires, as he explained, special powers of attorney and official translations.
"The accused does not bear the burden of proof. The person accusing him must present concrete evidence," Kriemadis stressed. He assessed that the bank documents would substantiate the flow of funds and would pave the way for his client's release.
Defence's position on the case file
The counsel insisted that the case against Koromilá is based exclusively on the testimony of a single witness, without being accompanied by evidence. He reminded that provisional detention does not constitute proof of guilt and invoked the presumption of innocence.
"There are countless cases where people are released and ultimately acquitted," he stated characteristically.
Regarding the scope of the charges, Kriemadis clarified that involvement in manipulation concerns 11 matches, without this meaning that his client refereed in all of them. As an example of what he regarded as a weakness in the charges, he cited a second division match with a final score difference of 38 points, arguing that such a result would have had no reason to be rigged.
Questioning the witness's credibility
Kriemadis also challenged the credibility of the prosecution's key witness, who, he said, has been granted immunity status. He stated that the defence plans to present to the court evidence both regarding the witness's role and the circumstances under which the accusation was made.
The above claims represent the defence's positions and will be evaluated by the competent judicial authorities.
