Adjournment to 27 November in Kampanós trial in Thessaloniki
The second-degree trial for the murder of Álkis Kampanós, which was scheduled to begin on Wednesday 23 October at the courthouse in Thessaloniki, has been adjourned to 27 November due to health problems affecting the supporting counsel for the prosecution, according to gazzetta.gr.
The case was taken to second degree following an appeal filed by the former head of the Prosecutor's Office of the Court of Appeal in Thessaloniki, seeking harsher sentences for most of the accused. At first instance, seven of the twelve PAOK supporters had been convicted of life imprisonment, with additional multi-year sentences, as accomplices in homicide with possible intent. The remaining five received fixed prison sentences as simple accessories.
Members of the victim's family were present in court. Álkis's mother, Melína Kakoulídou, stated: "We must hear what Justice will tell us. I am at zero point, with the same wound. In this trial, however, I too am serving my sentence, life in pain."
