Drunk driver caused two accidents in Podsused and fled: fine of €2,620
32-year-old drove with 1.68 g/kg alcohol, caused two accidents in Zagreb and fled from both scenes. Court fined him €2,620 and banned him from driving for six months.
Intoxicated driver hit traffic equipment and another car, then fled both scenes
Zagreb police arrested a 32-year-old driver who on Tuesday evening in the Podsused area caused two traffic accidents and left the scene both times without providing information, Index.hr reported. The misdemeanour court imposed a fine of €2,620 and a protective measure banning him from driving category B vehicles for six months.
The first accident occurred on Tuesday, 2 June, at around 22:50 on the Zagreb-west junction of the A3 motorway. In the temporary traffic regulation zone, the driver failed to adjust his speed and hit three direction-separation markers, three barrier-marking signs and a sign post. After causing material damage, he drove off without stopping.
He continued driving on Ljubljanska Avenue, where about a hundred metres before the intersection with Ulica Velimira Škorpika he began changing lanes without checking whether he could do so safely. The front of his vehicle hit the rear of a 30-year-old woman's car travelling in the same direction. He did not stop then either — he left the scene without exchanging details or completing a European accident statement.
Police officers stopped him on a nearby street shortly after the second getaway. A breathalyser test established that he had 1.68 g/kg alcohol in his system. He was immediately removed from traffic, arrested and brought before the competent misdemeanour court with a charge sheet.
In the charge sheet, police requested a prison sentence of 30 days and a ban on driving category B vehicles for 12 months. The court found him guilty, but instead of imprisonment imposed a fine of €2,620 and a six-month driving ban.
