Units of the Haitian National Police launched an offensive on Monday 16 March 2026 in the heart of Port-au-Prince aimed at reclaiming neighbourhoods controlled by gangs. Officers were particularly active in the vicinity of the first and second Bolosse avenues.
According to a human rights activist cited by the daily newspaper, security services had not entered these sectors since 2022. This return therefore marks a turning point in the authorities' strategy.
During these operations, several individuals linked to armed gangs died in exchanges with law enforcement. These manoeuvres are part of a broader campaign intended to liberate zones held by criminal organisations.
