Five Albanian citizens have been arrested in Padua as part of an anti-drugs operation by the Mobile Squad, coordinated by the Public Prosecutor's Office of the Euganean capital. This is reported by rainews.it. The investigation, which lasted approximately four months, led to the seizure of over two kilograms of cocaine and the recovery of a pistol stolen in 2019.
Four of the five detained individuals had prior criminal records. Investigators reconstructed a drug delivery system based on recognition codes: couriers and recipients — often unknown to each other — would exchange an agreed password before the substance was handed over. The delivery would only take place after the correct code was communicated.
The seized cocaine had an estimated purity level of around 80%. According to investigators, once placed on the Padua market it could have generated approximately 200,000 euros.
During the investigation, an inspection was also carried out on a venue frequented by one of those under investigation. Following the checks, the Prefect of Padua ordered the closure of the establishment for thirty days with a measure dated 14 May.
The investigation is still ongoing to verify any further links to drug trafficking in the area. The presumption of innocence applies until a final conviction.
