Murder in swimming pool: ex-husband arrested

According to ilgiorno.it, the Carabinieri in Como have arrested Carmine Civitillo, 76, for the death of Patrizia Monteleone, found drowned in the swimming pool of her home in Erba on 27 September. The woman, 64, was disabled and used a wheelchair.

From the initial inspections onwards, serious doubts arose about the version provided by Civitillo. The victim, who could not move independently, was found around midday after the ex-husband alerted his son. Civitillo had stated that he had found her already lifeless in the water, as a victim of an accident.

The investigations conducted over the course of weeks led investigators to a different reconstruction. According to investigative hypotheses, Civitillo would have compressed the woman's mouth to prevent her from screaming, would have taken her to the edge of the swimming pool on her wheelchair and finally would have pushed her into the water. Only after would he have alerted his son and emergency responders, telling the version of an accident.

The custody order was issued by deputy prosecutor Alessandra Bellù on the basis of technical-scientific findings, forensic medical examinations, surveillance video analysis, telephone intercepts and statements. The investigations were completed by inspections and technical experiments carried out by the Carabinieri and by consultants appointed by the public prosecutor. Civitillo was traced and arrested in the province of Benevento, where he had moved after the death of his ex-wife, also because the small villa had been placed under seizure.
