Searches in 23 cities for violence incited online

The Digos and postal police carried out sixty searches the day after tensions recorded during the national strike called by the USB. According to reports from huffingtonpost.it, those under investigation allegedly used social profiles and chats to incite violence in the streets of many cities.

During the operations, investigators seized toy weapons, window breakers and clothing stolen during looting. Eleven mobile phones were also seized and are now undergoing analysis. The searches took place in 23 municipalities, hours after clashes between protesters and police forces.

The most significant tensions were recorded in Rome and Turin. In the capital, some groups of young people attempted to reach institutional buildings in the heart of the city. The operations resulted in seven charges and 369 identifications. Those under investigation face charges including aggravated resistance to a public official, disguising in a public place, carrying objects capable of causing injury and road blockade.

In Rome, road and tram traffic was interrupted on Viale Aventino, where protesters sat on the ground to obstruct identification operations. The position of all those identified remains under review by the Police Headquarters for determining any criminal or administrative liability.

In the Piedmont capital, twelve people were charged with allegations including resistance and assault of a public official. Officers identified a total of 256 people, of which eleven were taken to the police headquarters for further investigation.

In Milan, police forces continued territory monitoring following last month's disorder. Intensified checks involved railway stations and the city centre, where plainclothes officers patrolled the streets of the Duomo-Brera-Cairoli axis. During the day no particular issues were found.

In Bologna the march against rising costs and rearmament took place without clashes. The Police Headquarters recorded approximately 300 identifications and a preventive detention concerning an individual found with a balaclava and protective goggles, subsequently released after investigation.

Meanwhile in Rome, a sit-in organised by students and workers continues in the area of the Imperial Fora, with around forty tents set up a short distance from the Colosseum. The organisers have stated their intention to continue the protest beyond the Friday demonstration, calling for attention to rent, precarious employment and the cost of living.
