Verona, former nurse arrested over wife's death from insulin
Nadir Rossi, 35, is in custody accused of killing his nurse wife in 2024 with lethal insulin injections. Investigations reveal administrations during hospital admission.

Former nurse in preventive custody for murder
According to nurse24.it, the Judge for Preliminary Investigations at the Verona Court has ordered custody for Nadir Rossi, 35, a former nurse at the Emergency Department of Borgo Roma hospital. Rossi is accused of killing his wife Jessica Dalla Chiara, 32, a home care nurse, between May and June 2024 through non-therapeutic insulin injections.
The death occurred on 24 June 2024. According to investigators from the Mobile Squad, Rossi allegedly caused the woman a series of critical hypoglycaemic crises. The first crisis occurred on the night of 22 May: Jessica suffered a cardiorespiratory arrest due to severe hypoglycaemia and paramedics resuscitated her. During her subsequent admission to Borgo Trento hospital, Rossi allegedly continued to inject insulin through her venous catheters, exploiting his access to the ward outside visiting hours.
Three further hypoglycaemic crises followed. On 8 June, urine analysis revealed benzodiazepines, which investigators believe were intended to induce torpor in the victim. Jessica Dalla Chiara died three days after returning home to Bussolengo.
The formal charges against Rossi include aggravated murder, aggravated attempted murder, destruction and suppression of a corpse through cremation, insurance fraud and continued misappropriation of pharmaceutical drugs. Rossi remains under investigation: his responsibility will be established in the trial.
Two separate reports initiated the inquiry. In July 2024 the Integrated University Hospital Trust of Verona communicated that the hypoglycaemia episodes had no natural causes and derived from non-therapeutic insulin administrations. The woman's parents, for their part, raised doubts about the cremation ordered by their son-in-law immediately after the funeral, which made autopsy impossible.
Investigators also contest against Rossi online searches for symptoms of severe hypoglycaemia dating back to April 2024, the manipulation of alleged final wishes on his wife's telephone and the collection of the life insurance policy. In November 2025 colleagues found him unconscious in the Emergency Department changing room after taking fentanyl and morphine taken from the ward. Toxicological analysis measured concentrations well below the lethal threshold; investigators speak of a staged incident.
Insulin falls among the pharmaceutical drugs requiring a high level of attention according to Recommendation No. 7 of the Ministry of Health, which provides for dedicated procedures for storage, prescription, preparation and administration. In Verona it was precisely the Hospital Trust, through laboratory tests, that first reported that those hypoglycaemias had no clinical explanation.
For opioids, the decree of the Ministry of Health of 15 September 2026, published in the Official Gazette, sets out uniform measures: custody in a safe or armoured cabinet, access tracked with name date and time, comparison between actual and accounting records every 48 hours, notification of thefts within 12 hours. Both the victim and the defendant were nurses. The Code of Ethics of nursing professions places the protection of the person being cared for at the centre of the professional mandate.
