Woman attacked with knife and attempted rape in Alytus park – suspect detained
A man born in 1976 has been detained in Alytus district on suspicion of attacking a woman with a knife and attempting to rape her on 5 July in Jurgiškių Street park. Upon detention, he did not resist and claimed he did not know why he was being detained.

Suspected rapist found at farmer's homestead in Alytus district
On 26 August at approximately 19:00, officers of the Alytus Regional Police Headquarters detained a man born in 1976. According to 15min, he was detained at a homestead belonging to a farmer in Alytus district and did not resist during detention. When asked whether he knew why he was being detained, he answered that he did not know.
The man is suspected of attacking a woman on 5 July at approximately 14:00 in a park located on Jurgiškių Street in Alytus and attempting to rape her. The woman was walking along the pavement and noticed a man following behind her. Shortly afterwards, he pressed a knife to her neck, dragged her away from the pavement and attempted to rape her.
When the attacker momentarily pulled the knife away, the woman took the opportunity and escaped – he failed to carry out his intentions.
A pre-trial investigation is being conducted in connection with this incident under Article 150 of the Criminal Code of the Republic of Lithuania, which provides for liability for sexual assault. The investigation is being carried out by officers of the Criminal Police Division of the Alytus Regional Police Headquarters, and is supervised and overseen by prosecutors of the Alytus District Prosecutor's Office of the Kaunas Regional Prosecutor's Office.
