Appeals court reduces fine for A. Vyšniauskas in "vouchers" case
Former Seimas member and former Marijampolė municipality council member Andrius Vyšniauskas remains convicted in the so-called "vouchers" case, but his monetary fine has been reduced. This is reported by LRT.lt.
On Thursday, the panel of judges of Kaunas Regional Court, chaired by Linas Šiukšta, partially upheld the defence's appeal. The fine was reduced from 7,500 to 6,500 euros. The ban on working in state service for three years was left unchanged.
A. Vyšniauskas was convicted of forging 19 expense statements in 2019–2020 whilst serving as a council member. He presented data in them that did not correspond to reality concerning alleged fuel, telephone and internet connection expenses incurred.
The appellate court altered the judgement – the politician was left convicted only of acquiring fuel obtained by others. It was previously established that he fraudulently obtained 2,190 euros, but this sum was reduced to 1,311 euros.
The decision took effect immediately. A. Vyšniauskas stated that he would appeal it by way of cassation.
