A flat in Palanga belonging to politician Saulius Skvernelis and his wife has been seized. This is one of the procedural actions in a bribery case.
General Prosecutor's Office seizes S. Skvernelis's flat in Palanga
The General Prosecutor's Office has seized a flat in Palanga belonging to politician Saulius Skvernelis and his wife. This procedural action has been in effect from 26 May 2026, according to data from the Register Centre.
S. Skvernelis stated that standard criminal procedure actions are being carried out, but he views them as excessive. The politician and his wife purchased the nearly 52 square-metre property in Palanga in 2020, acquiring it with a loan. The property's taxable value is 217 thousand euros.
The Seimas member, suspected of bribery in the State Plant Protection Service case, has also been ordered to wear a monitoring bracelet. This is the second strictest measure, which can only be imposed by a pre-trial investigation judge or a court.
Authorities suspect that S. Skvernelis, whilst a Seimas member and chairman, received a bribe of 51 thousand euros in cash through his adviser Agnė Silickienė. The money is believed to have been transferred from January to November 2025. At that time, A. Silickienė also worked at the State Plant Protection Service, which was headed by Jurijus Kornijenka, also suspected of bribery.
Prosecutors allege that an organised group with links to the criminal underworld formed within the service and systematically demanded bribes from companies in exchange for the issuance of phytosanitary certificates. The total amount of bribes could have reached 1.112 million euros. Approximately 250 euros was demanded for each certificate.
