Two criminal cases have been referred to court in which four people are charged with tobacco smuggling. The preliminary investigations have already been completed.

In the case involving three individuals – E. R., D. N. and D. R. – they are charged with acting as part of a group with persons from Belarus. They purchased cigarettes bearing Belarusian excise marks and transported them into the territory of Lithuania whilst evading customs. Meteorological balloons were used to cross the border; additionally, navigation and communications equipment were employed.

A fourth individual has been charged in a separate case for the illegal handling of excise goods.

The prosecutor from the Kaunas Regional Prosecutor's Office is seeking for both cases to be concluded by court penalty order.
