After video footage documenting an attack on what is believed to be a girl of similar age appeared online Wednesday evening, the Marijampolė District Police Commissariat began investigating all circumstances surrounding the incident.
The video shows a girl sitting on a bench with her head bowed becoming the target of an attack by another teenager. Climbing onto the bench, the aggressor strikes the victim multiple times on the head with a mobile phone. Shortly afterwards, the device is taken from the attacker by another girl, who also hits the victim and kicks her with her feet. Young people gathered around watch the confrontation, their laughter can be heard, but nobody interferes and attempts to stop the act of violence.
A representative of the Marijampolė District Police Chief's Commissariat, Justė Vasiliauskienė, confirmed receiving a report about the incident.
"Citizens made contact. According to initial information, the suspect has been identified – a twelve-year-old. Information gathering regarding the circumstances began yesterday," said J. Vasiliauskienė.
