A 23-year-old citizen sentenced by a Lithuanian court in 2020 for sexual offences against a child in the Mažeikiai district has been found in Northern Ireland. She had been evading her sentence.

Northern Irish law enforcement arrested a 23-year-old citizen under an international extradition warrant. The woman had been sentenced in Lithuania to a custodial sentence for sexual offences against a minor committed in the Mažeikiai vicinity. The convicted woman had been evading responsibility since 2020.
The police operation took place on Wednesday in a rural location near Coalisland. Officers conducting a search of a property found the woman hidden in a wardrobe. Northern Ireland Police statements stressed that she "made every effort to hide and avoid the consequences of her actions".
On Thursday, an extradition court in Laganside will decide the fate of the detained woman. It will determine whether to hand her over to Lithuanian authorities to serve her sentence.
