A young Lithuanian woman sentenced to imprisonment for sexual offences against a minor has been found hiding in a cupboard in Northern Ireland. The news was reported by the portal 15min.
The 23-year-old suspect was detained in a house in the Coalisland area. Police officers discovered her concealed in a wardrobe. The woman was arrested based on an extradition warrant issued by Lithuanian law enforcement authorities.
The crimes for which the sentence was imposed were committed in the Mažeikiai district. This week she will appear before Laganside court, which will decide on her extradition to Lithuania.
A sergeant, Davey, representing the International Section of the Police Service of Northern Ireland (PSNI), noted that the woman had long sought to evade responsibility. According to him, this arrest demonstrates that the institution continues to pursue criminals and seeks justice for victims.
PSNI Superintendent Marty Reid stated that his unit actively searches for fugitives and provides assistance to European law enforcement authorities.
He added that cooperation with the United Kingdom's National Crime Agency, Interpol, and Europol is becoming increasingly close. This allows for more effective pursuit of justice at both local and international levels.
