Five convicted inmates attacked prisoner in Pravieniškės – court imposed custodial sentences

Kaunas Regional Court handed down a decision in a case in which five persons were accused of violence against another inmate. The incident occurred at Pravieniškės Correctional Facility.

The court found guilty Dominykas Adomavičius, Tomas Ača, Andrius Gaurilčikas, Edvinas Labanauskas and Deividas Stončius. They were found guilty of committing a grave violent offence as part of a group against a person serving a custodial sentence in prison.

The victim was beaten by several inmates. The violence was particularly brutal – the victim was struck with a chair and metal bars. The injured man later recounted that during the attack he believed he would be killed.

The court imposed two years' custodial sentence on each of the five convicted persons. Furthermore, they are required to compensate the victim for non-pecuniary damage in the amount of 8,000 euros.

This case once again demonstrates that the walls of correctional facilities do not protect against crimes – violent outbreaks occur there as well.
