Telephone fraudsters extorted nearly 40,000 euros in just a few days
Vilnius police are investigating several telephone fraud cases. Within a short period, several elderly people fell victim to the fraudsters, losing large sums of money.
Telephone fraudsters extorted nearly 40,000 euros in just a few days
The Vilnius District Chief Police Commissariat has launched investigations into telephone fraud. In recent days, criminals extorted nearly forty thousand euros from residents.
One of the victims is a woman born in 1953 from Švenčionys district. She reported to police that on 10 June she received calls from individuals who claimed to be law enforcement officers. These fraudsters persuaded the woman to hand over four thousand euros. She passed the money to a man who came to her home.
Fraudsters typically target elderly people and pose as police officers or officials from other institutions. Law enforcement is urging citizens not to trust calls in which they are asked to transfer money or disclose bank information.
