Police warn: fake "Regitra" and bank websites spreading in Lithuania

Forged institutional websites – a new wave of fraud in Lithuania

Tv3.lt reports that the Police virtual patrol on social network "Facebook" has warned the public about fraud cases recorded in Lithuania in recent days on the internet. Residents are encountering fake websites that are visually almost indistinguishable from official "Regitra", bank, or other institutional pages.

The fraudsters' aim is to extract people's personal and bank details through deceptively constructed web pages.

Officials emphasise that even an official-looking website is not necessarily genuine. Before entering any sensitive information, it is recommended to carefully check the address bar in the browser. A single changed character in the website address can become a trap – this is what police consider one of the most common types of fraud.

Attention is also drawn to the fact that the advertising label "Sponsored" in search results does not mean that the page is official or trustworthy.

"One fake website – and your bank details could end up in the hands of fraudsters," the police post reads.

Similar fraud cases have been recorded in different parts of Lithuania in recent days, and the scheme used by the fraudsters in each of them was practically identical.
