Politician amended declarations – declared cash amounts reduced by hundreds of thousands
Remigijus Žemaitaitis, leader of the "Nemuno aušra" party, amended his asset and income declarations, in which he had previously indicated holding large sums of cash. In May of this year, the media reported that the politician declared at the end of 2024 that he held over €200,000 in cash. Now that sum has decreased by nearly half.
The amendments were made retroactively, after journalists began raising questions about his finances. Earlier, attention was drawn to the fact that in 2022 the politician's stated savings exceeded his official income. A representative of the State Tax Inspectorate commented at the time that such discrepancies between earned funds and accumulated savings typically become grounds for initiating a tax investigation.
Despite the aforementioned circumstances, an official investigation was not initiated against the politician.
