Vilnius district officers conducted an operation in Širvinta district against dealers of psychotropic substances. Several people were detained, including a young family who arrived to collect drugs with a child.

On 8 July, police officers in Širvinta district carried out a targeted operation during which several people suspected of illegal drug and psychotropic substance distribution were arrested. Over several hours, law enforcement managed to uncover a channel through which, it is believed, large quantities of a substance known on the street as "crystal" were being sold. Reported by LRT.
One of the detentions took place before 18:00 on Kalnalauko Street in Širvinta. Officers there detained a 24-year-old local resident. He is suspected of acquiring significant quantities of drugs with the intention of selling them further. However, what particularly alarmed officers was that a 28-year-old child's mother, who arrived with a young child by car, was also involved in the criminal scheme.
Law enforcement is now investigating whether the infant was merely an incidental passenger, or whether the adults deliberately used the child as a cover to appear inconspicuous. Both parents are suspected of illegal possession of psychotropic substances for distribution purposes.
Almost simultaneously, a VW Passat vehicle was stopped in Kiaukliai village. Its 21-year-old passenger, according to police, was carrying approximately 100 grammes of crystallised psychotropic substance intended for sale.
Following a search of the detained man's father's home, packets containing what is believed to be the same substances were found, as well as cannabis. Charges have also been brought against the older generation.
Police are inclined to believe that these cases are not isolated. It is possible that some of the drugs have already been distributed through intermediaries in Širvinta town and surrounding areas.
Širvinta district police headquarters emphasises that combating drug distribution is one of the main tasks for this year both in the district and throughout Vilnius district. Cases in which children are involved in criminal activity are being monitored with particular attention.
Residents are urged to report suspicious individuals who may be dealing in narcotic or psychotropic substances. Anonymity is guaranteed.
The investigation is ongoing – additional evidence is being gathered and procedural actions are being undertaken. Those suspected of these crimes face up to ten years' imprisonment.
