Fraudsters deceive two women and steal over €16,000: one lured by investment scheme, other by parcel message
Vilnius police are investigating two separate fraud cases in which two women lost more than €16,000. Officers have launched pre-trial investigations into both incidents.
The first victim was a pensioner from Vilnius, born in 1948. In early summer, she saw an advertisement on the internet offering the opportunity to invest. After clicking on a link posted on a social network, she entered her personal information. Shortly afterwards, a man called her, speaking Russian and introducing himself as a financial expert. Through deception, he extorted €12,192 from the woman.
On the same day, another victim, born in 1963, reported the matter to police. She fell for a text message containing a link that was supposedly intended for payment for parcel delivery. After entering her login details into the online banking system, the woman lost €4,000. This incident occurred in Ukmergė district.
In both cases, pre-trial investigations have been initiated for fraud.
