Police officers are drawing residents' attention to a new fraud case. A woman contacted law enforcement to report that an unknown person who called her, spoke Russian and claimed to be an employee of technology giant Google, defrauded her of twenty thousand euros and a bank debit card through deception.

The victim handed over the money and card to an unknown man who arrived at her location. A pre-trial investigation has been launched regarding this incident under Article 182, Part 2 of the Lithuanian Criminal Code, which provides for liability for fraud.

The police virtual patrol reminds residents to remain vigilant when receiving suspicious calls. Officers emphasise that fraudsters constantly develop new deception methods, so it is important not to engage in conversations with strangers and not to carry out any financial operations according to their instructions. Even those who claim to represent well-known companies or state institutions may be fraudsters.
