Telšiai police discovered 5,000 packets of illegal cigarettes in a car boot and garage during a search. A pre-trial investigation has been initiated.
Illegal cigarettes with Belarusian tax stamps seized in Telšiai
According to Tv3.lt, on Wednesday evening, around 16:30, police officers in Telšiai on Karaliaus Mindaugo Street discovered 5,000 packets of illegal cigarettes during a search.
Winston cigarettes, marked with excise tax stamps from the Republic of Belarus, were found in the boot of a VW Golf car and in a nearby garage. The Police Department confirmed that all goods were seized.
A summons was issued to the suspect, born in 1989. A pre-trial investigation has been initiated regarding the unlawful handling of excise-taxable goods.
Under applicable legislation, persons who violate the prescribed procedure in acquiring, holding, transporting or selling excisable goods with a value exceeding 400 MGL but not exceeding 900 MGL, face a fine or imprisonment for up to six years.
