Tunnel near Belarusian border in Varėna district: dozens of migrants missing
A tunnel has been discovered in Varėna district over the weekend, with suspicions that dozens of migrants used it to enter Lithuania. The State Border Guard Service confirmed the operation, and a pre-trial investigation has been launched.

Over the weekend, border guards and police conducted a large-scale search in Varėna district after a tunnel measuring several metres in length was discovered at the border, according to 15min. The operation was not announced publicly.
The State Border Guard Service (VSAT) confirmed to 15min that a large contingent of forces combed the area, and a helicopter took part in the search. A pre-trial investigation has been launched into the incident.
According to 15min sources, it is suspected that two groups of migrants may have entered Lithuania from Belarus through the tunnel – with approximately a dozen people in each group. However, none of them were found.
