Vilnius resident detained for theft and disclosure of classified information

Officers from the Police Department's Immunity Directorate and the Lithuanian Criminal Police Bureau detained a Vilnius resident suspected of theft, unlawful acquisition and disclosure to third parties of classified information constituting an official secret, according to delfi.lt.

Searches were carried out at the detainee's place of residence, workplace and in vehicles. Officers found and seized electronic devices potentially used to record and store information, as well as other items and documents relevant to the investigation.

Police Department spokesperson Ramūnas Matonis clarified that the suspect is not a police officer, and that the stolen information relates to public procurement. When asked whether surveillance equipment was discovered during the investigation, Matonis replied: "Apparently."

The individual has been charged with unlawful installation or use of technical means to collect information and theft or unlawful acquisition of an official secret. These offences carry a maximum custodial sentence of up to four years.

The pre-trial investigation is supervised by prosecutors from the General Prosecutor's Office Department for the Investigation of Organised Crime and Corruption.

The Police Department emphasises that this investigation reflects one of the main directions of the Immunity Directorate's activities — protecting the police system from unlawful influence, including the security of classified information and the prevention of threats to institutional interests.
