Blows and detentions at Vilnius rally

On Saturday, two rallies took place side by side in Vilnius – one against immigration and another against racism. Police were present in large numbers and recorded several incidents, reports delfi.lt.

The first incident occurred when one rally participant began shouting, using uncensored language, and disregarding police demands. Police detained him under Article 481 of the Administrative Offences Code for a minor public order violation. The man, born in 1996, was placed in a police van and taken away.

As people began to disperse, two participants from the rally against migration organised by Vytautas Sinica approached a group of participants from the other rally. Police intervened immediately and escorted them away.

The most serious incident – a physical assault – occurred at around 14:15 on the corner of Vilniaus Street and Gediminas Avenue. A woman who contacted the news portal LRT.lt with journalists recounted that she was holding a placard reading "Lithuania for all" when another woman approached her.

"I was standing with a placard saying 'Lithuania for all', when a woman came up to me and aggressively said 'Lithuania for all? Lithuania for Lithuanians'," the victim recalled.

According to her account, the woman then struck her with a fist in the abdomen, and later in the chest area. The victim fell to the ground. Officers responded and observed the assailant for some time before leading her away. Vilnius police confirmed the incident: a woman born in 1977 was detained, and a pre-trial investigation was initiated under the Criminal Code article concerning public order disturbance. A medical team was called to the scene. Police told delfi.lt that the victim was transported to hospital.
