Border guards at Vilnius Airport detained a 36-year-old Lithuanian citizen deported from the United Kingdom, for whom a search had been issued in November 2020 for the unlawful handling of narcotic substances.

On Thursday afternoon, border guards at Vilnius Airport detained a 36-year-old Lithuanian citizen whom the United Kingdom deported for violating local laws. The man had been wanted by Vilnius police since November 2020, the State Border Guard Service (VSAT) reported.
The incident occurred after a flight from London landed, when officers inspected passengers' travel documents. Border guards established that the individual was wanted by the capital's police for the unlawful handling of narcotic substances. The search had been issued more than five years previously.
The detained man was handed over by border guards to Vilnius police officers who arrived at the airport.
This year, over nearly six months, VSAT officers detained 247 individuals wanted by Lithuanian and foreign law enforcement institutions for various offences or violations. Of these, 197 were detained at airports. The majority of those detained – 229 – are Lithuanian citizens. Also detained were 4 Latvian, 3 each from Belarus, the United Kingdom and Russia, 2 from Moldova, and 1 each from Ireland, Romania and Turkey.
