A woman living in Vilnius experienced two fraud cases, through which she lost more than €18,000. Police officers informed the public of this on Tuesday.

The victim, born in the 1970s, lost money for the first time last summer. At that time, she invested €10,000 into an online investment platform, which disappeared.

A year later, this summer, the woman received messages from unknown individuals. They claimed they could help her recover the lost sum, but this would require additional investment. Trusting their promises, the Vilnius woman transferred another €8,000, which the fraudsters also took.

Another major fraud case occurred in the capital in recent days. A woman, also born in 1970, received calls from unknown persons who introduced themselves as bank and police employees. They obtained her payment card details from her and withdrew more than €7,000 from her account.

A few days later, an unknown man came to the woman's house, to whom she transferred almost €4,000 in cash.

Pre-trial investigations have been launched in relation to both incidents under the fraud statute.
