Fraudsters in Vilnius and Marijampolė defraud individuals of €24,000 posing as bankers and police officers
On Monday, two individuals in Lithuania lost €24,000 after fraudsters posed as employees of financial institutions and police officers over the telephone and deceived them into handing over money.

On Monday, fraudsters telephoning whilst posing as bank and police officials defrauded €24,000 from two Lithuanian residents – a woman in the capital and a man in southern Lithuania.
A woman from Vilnius (born 1937) reported the incident to the Police Department at approximately 19.18. She stated that on the same day, at approximately 08.46, she received a call from unknown individuals. The callers introduced themselves as employees of a telecommunications company and a bank, as well as a police officer. Through deception, the fraudsters obtained €13,000 from the woman.
That same evening, at 18.12, a man (born 1955) from Marijampolė contacted police. He claimed that at approximately 17.00 he had received a call from unknown individuals who identified themselves as a bank employee and a police officer. Through fraud, they obtained €11,000 from him.
Pre-trial investigations have been initiated in both cases under the fraud provision.
