Young drunk driver crashed into lamppost in Vilnius – two friends died in the vehicle

In the early hours of Saturday, at approximately 4.20 a.m., a fatal traffic collision occurred on Žirmūnai Street in the capital. A young woman, born in 2007, was driving a hybrid BMW 530e. The vehicle became uncontrollable and collided forcefully with a street lamp. Following the impact, the car was destroyed and burst into open flames. Two passengers travelling with her died in the crash – a girl born in the same year, 2007, and a young man born in 2005. The driver herself survived but was injured – paramedics transported her to hospital. During the investigation, it was established that she had consumed alcohol – 0.58 per mille was detected in her body.

According to information published by žmonės.15min.lt, this driver had previously demonstrated an irresponsible attitude towards traffic regulations. On 25 May in the Old Town, at the intersection of Vilniaus and Islandijos streets, where a residential zone and a "STOP" sign are in effect, she failed to yield to pedestrians. Having driven past the sign, she nearly hit a small child on a tricycle. The child's father managed to pull him away, whilst the driver, having opened her window, directed expletives at him and drove away. The child's mother, who witnessed the incident, reported it to ePolice.

Police representatives confirmed that, following the May incident, the young driver was issued with a notice of administrative violation under Article 417(1) of the Road Traffic Code and was fined.

Additionally, according to alfa.lt, this girl threw a brick at a public transport bus on Pergalės Street in the capital in 2022, when she was a minor, and shattered the rear window. She did not compensate for the damage even after signing a settlement agreement, forcing the transport company to go to court to recover the debt through bailiffs.
