Two elderly residents of the capital lost €35,000 in a single day. Fraudsters impersonating bankers and police officers extracted the money by telephone.
On Wednesday, a man born in 1947 approached police. He reported that on 7 July, at around 4 p.m., he received a call from unknown individuals. The callers claimed to be employees of a financial institution and law enforcement and through deception extracted €20,000. The victim handed over the money to an unknown person who came to their flat.
The same day, at approximately 1 p.m., a similar scenario was repeated with a woman born in 1943. The callers communicated in Russian. They impersonated telecommunications company specialists and police officers and extracted €15,000.
Law enforcement initiated two pre-trial investigations into fraud. In the second case, the circumstances regarding the unauthorised use of the name of a state official or person performing public administration functions are also being examined.
