Drink-driving in Luxembourg: man loses licence after wife's accident
A man was tried for drink-driving after getting behind the wheel to travel to the site of his wife's accident. The Luxembourg court has withdrawn his licence.

Poor driving decision: licence at stake following wife's accident
The 9th of June proved disastrous for Gérard. According to Le Quotidien, his wife had had a traffic accident that day — and it was he who ultimately found himself in the dock before the 12th correctional chamber of the district court in Luxembourg.
"That was not your best day," the chamber president said to the defendant.
Gérard had spent the day working in his garden. He had just poured himself a Campari when he received a call informing him of his wife's accident. He then got behind the wheel to head to the scene — a decision that cost him dearly: police, already present at the location, noted his state of intoxication.
The case illustrates how an impulsive reaction, even if motivated by concern, can result in serious legal consequences. Drink-driving is liable, in Luxembourg, to licence withdrawal.
