Fatal shootings in Trois-Îlets and Rivière-Salée

Three people lost their lives to gunfire and a fourth was seriously wounded during the night of Friday 30 to Saturday 31 October in southern Martinique, according to cnews.fr, which cited firefighters and a judicial source.

The Fort-de-France prosecutor's office confirmed a toll of "three dead and one seriously wounded". The incidents occurred in two municipalities: Trois-Îlets and Rivière-Salée.

Just before 5 a.m., emergency services intervened at Pointe du Bout, in Trois-Îlets, after a man wounded by gunshot was reported. Upon arrival, the victim was already deceased. Minutes later, in the same municipality, a motorcyclist was also hit by gunfire and did not survive.

Almost simultaneously, two other motorcyclists were found seriously wounded by gunfire near a petrol station in Rivière-Salée. One of them, resuscitated on site by emergency services, died later at hospital.

The exact circumstances of these killings remain unknown at this stage. Investigations have been entrusted to the gendarmerie.

In June, the prefect of Martinique had made combating the circulation of firearms a priority for the State, emphasising that these acts of violence affected mainly young people.
