Cocaine seizure at Aimé Césaire airport: Polish man sentenced to 12 months custody

A passenger of Polish nationality was intercepted on 27 September 2026 at Martinique Aimé Césaire airport after a body scanner triggered an alert during his screening. According to zayactu.org, officials from the Border Police (PAF) then discovered 1,055 grammes of cocaine concealed around his thighs.

The traveller was placed in custody before being handed over to the Territorial Service of the Judicial Police (STPJ), tasked with pursuing the investigation. Brought before a judge, he was sentenced to 12 months' imprisonment with immediate execution of the sentence.

The sentence is also accompanied by a prohibition on returning to French territory for a period of ten years.

This case illustrates the effectiveness of the new screening equipment recently installed at Martinique airport. It was precisely the alert generated by one of these body scanners that led directly to the discovery of the drug concealed on the passenger.
